Memorise: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: - 2 Timothy 4:7

Read: 2 Timothy 4:6-8 (KJV)

6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Bible in One Year: Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Colossians 1:24-2:15

MESSAGE:

The moment you became born-again, a race was set before you (Hebrews 12:1). This implies that until a person becomes born-again, he or she has no destination to go with God. It is the new birth in Christ Jesus that gives you a destination in God. Are you saved? If you are, there is a divine destination you have been called unto. Religion and being religious can never give you a destination in Christ. If you are born-again, you are going somewhere glorious, prepared for you by the Lord Jesus Christ, both in this world and in the world to come; but if you are not born-again, you are heading nowhere. You shall arrive at your God-given destination in Jesus' Name.

Moreover, it is one thing to start a race and another thing to finish it. While it is a great thing to finish the race, it is more glorious to finish it with joy. The devil will do everything to stop you from starting the race, but when he fails, he will try to hinder you from reaching the finish line. When he sees that he is not able to stop you from finishing the race, he will do everything possible to make you miserable, sad, depressed and unhappy along the way, so that you will end the race with grumbling, regrets, in tears and, if possible, even accusing God. These are all satanic wiles, but by the grace of God, you shall overcome.

One Bible character who was very conscious of the race he was called to run was Paul the apostle. In our Bible reading, towards the end of his race, he looked back and assessed his performance. He assessed himself against the backdrop of the rewards he saw reserved for him in Heaven. Paul knew exactly what he wanted. He had set his goal right from when his race started, and had worked assiduously towards achieving it. In Acts 20:22-24, in spite of the difficult situations he had already gone through for the faith, he acknowledged that several unpleasant events were awaiting him even as he headed for Jerusalem. Nevertheless, he was completely detached from them, because he was totally sold out to the Lord; the devil was therefore not able to get his attention. He had to do all these so that he could finish his race with joy. If you truly want to finish your race with joy, you must die to self. Satan will do everything to get at you, but if you are dead to self, you will not be moved. However, if you allow self to control you, you will take offence and finish in sorrow, and you may even get derailed. Are you ready to pay the price to finish this Christian race with joy?

Prayer Point: Father, help me finish with joy the Christian race set before me.

Gridlock: RCCG repairs Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
Nov 5th 2015, 15:57, by jdcrux

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has risen to the rescue of users of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as it undertook the repair of the Arepo and Warewa ends of the road on Wednesday.

PUNCH Metro observed some trucks belonging to the church filling up bad portions of the road.

The development has eased traffic on the expressway inward Ogun State but the situation remains unchanged on the other side of the road, inward Lagos State.

An official in the media department of the RCCG confirmed the development to our correspondent on the telephone, adding that the church had plans for more palliatives.

The officer, who asked not to be named, said the church was moved by the cries of users of the road and deployed a team to assess the situation on Tuesday.

She said, "We sent some of our men to go and see what was going on and assess the situation. They returned and gave a report so we deployed some trucks of granite to the place and they used them to fill up the potholes.

"We are not going to stop at that. We also plan to fill up the Lotto area of Mowe, because traffic usually builds up there as well. We will do this before our next congress."

Our correspondent, however, observed some trucks and caterpillars belonging to the Ogun State Ministry of Works clearing the drainage.

An official, who asked not to be named, said the clearing was to allow for a smooth passage of water, adding that it had nothing to do with road construction.

He said, "We are not in charge of road construction and it is not our duty to do it. You should go and ask Julius Berger Construction Company what they are doing about the road.

"We have been working since yesterday (Tuesday) and we are just trying to clear the drainage which we believe has been responsible for the flooding on the road. We are doing this to ease the traffic, especially for residents of Ogun State who are always faced with traffic congestion."

PUNCH Metro observed that a 40-foot container conveying millet to Lagos had an accident around the Arepo area and fell on the median.

Some men were seen evacuating its content into another truck, which was parked by the roadside.

One of the workers said, "The accident happened very early in the morning as the vehicle was heading to Lagos. As you can see, it was conveying bags of millet. Nobody was injured."

Policemen from the Warewa police post and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were observed by PUNCH Metro directing the traffic from the accident scene.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Ogun State, Mr. Adegoke Adetunji, said he would call back, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, inspected the palliative work on the expressway in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Amosun said that the development became imperative in view of the importance of the road to socio-economic development of the country.

According to Governor Amosun, the palliative measure, being put in place is expected to last for about a month and repair works would be done mainly at night.

He, however, appealed to road users to show understanding and bear with the government, pending the time the palliative measure would be carried out.
